EAT The restaurant scene in Calgary has recently exploded, and Kensington is certainly an area that caters to the city’s foodie crowd. Thinking Italian? Pulcinella and Peppino’s Deli can satisfy those cravings. If you’re looking for a finer dining experience then check out Muse and Vero Bistro Moderne. Or, if you want a more casual night out there’s Brasserie Kensington, Niko’s Bistro, and Sushi Club. The options are endless, and delicious too.
DRINK When thirst strikes, you’re safe in Kensington – it’s a hub for bars and pubs. Take in a piece of Calgary history by grabbing a pint and a traditional English meal at the Kensignton Pub, or snack on some sharing plates and try unique wine pairings at Wine Bar. SHOP What beats great accessibility and convenience to your local grocery store? Not much. And another great reason to live in Kensington is that you never have to go far to for your daily needs. From Safeway and RBC to Shopper’s Drug Mart, dry cleaners and hair salons – they’re all within walking distance. What makes this area extra special though is the unique stores within. Sunnyside Natural Market, located in the heart of Kensington, provides local and organic groceries. Kensington Wine Market is located right on Kensington Road and offers a fantastic selection of wine, beer and spirits. Crave cupcakes is a hot spot for picking up decadent desserts and treats. There’s also boutique clothing, jewelry and home décor shops that will inspire your closet, kitchen and walls too.
GEMS The Sun and Salsa Festival runs annually in the streets of Kensington, and is a fantastic way to really be a part of your community. Here you’ll be able to check out a variety of crazy street performances, browse the stalls of the street merchants, and of course take part in some Salsa sampling.
LEARN Kensington is made up of Sunnyside, Hillhurst, West Hillhurst, Briar Hill, and Rosedale. This area is home to a number of preschools, including Houndsfield Heights, a cooperative preschool in Briar Hill, as well as a Montessori preschool in Hillhurst. There are a number of elemenatary schools too, including King George and Madeleine d’Houet which both offer French immersion programs. When your kids hit junior high and high school, there are loads of options in the surrounding areas as well as Queen Elizabeth High School. Kensington also has the advantage of being close to two of Calgary’s post-secondary institutions – Sait, and the U of C, which are both just a short drive up the hill.
